What an inspiring website and great way for women to learn from one another. When I found out I was pregnant, I thought I would continue to ride. I asked my nurse and doctor about riding and they were hesitant saying stationery biking is fine. When they found out how active I was and that I rode daily, they gave me the green light to continue biking. At about week 15, I spoke to a midwife in search of making a change in my prenatal car. When scheduling my first appointment with her on the phone, she asked what kind of car I'd be coming in because she had a steep driveway. I told her, "oh, I'll be riding my bike." Oops, had I made a mistake telling her this? Her response was, "oh great, you're just building immunity for that baby!" I knew I had found the right person to take care of me and my unborn baby. I continued to cycle into my 40th week, although my rides were short going to yoga, swimming, and little errands here and there. The thing that caused me the most discomfort was my tailbone (which was probably due to how my baby was positioned). After my little one was born, I continued to ride from her daycare to work part time. She continues to love the bike trailer - and her bike helmet!

Ha! Susana, what a nice comment! And thanks for following for so long, it's nice to hear from long-time readers. I credit the many many walks with the stroller for losing some of that baby weight, god knows I gained a ton :) If I look radient, it's only because I'm really loving where life has taken me: motherhood, writing, wrapping up one academic milestone and seeing where things will take me next. I wish you equal joy in your academic career and motherhood!

Thanks, Joy! Comments like these really make me happy that I started the series. I've found it so inspiring to hear from others in the bilingual world and am glad to hear that my readers are also enjoying these posts. If you'd like to also contribute for the "growing up bilingual" posts, I'd love to send you my questionnaire.

And thanks for following for so long and for the congratulatory wishes!

We used the Bobike mini for two years and I loved it. We just changed to a bobike backseat. I miss having my son in front of me. For the longer trips (or trips with a tired kid) the biketrailer was the more convenient option. I just had a look at the WeerRide seats and love that they have a place were the kid can rest his head. The little one and I missed that option on the Bobike.

Hey! I've been inspired by you since the beginning of Academichic (RIP, sniff) and I honestly did a double-take at this picture. You look FANTASTIC!!! Love the haircut, you are radiant, you were pregnant - what? (I had a baby 2 weeks after you and I wish I looked like you!). And I really hope this comment doesn't seem stalkerish to you...I'm just another academic mom. :) Also, congrats to Dr. T and what beautiful little baby. A joyful family. Many happy blessings!

I'm a 25-year-old medical student, and far from married with children. But even as a single, childless gal, I want to say how much I have enjoyed this series and that I am so grateful to you for pursuing this project. I was raised bilingual (English and Arabic), and now speak Spanish fluently as well. It is so valuable to learn a language as a child and it is encouraging to see how many parents want to continue on the tradition. I may be a long way off from having kids but it's nice to know that it will be possible to raise them bi- or even tri-lingual when the time comes! Please please keep the guests post coming!

Thanks again!
